The Problem & Our Solution

Why Choose Artemis Birth Academy?

The over medicalised model of childbirth often prioritises the use of medical interventions and technology, rather than natural and physiological birth. This can lead to unnecessary medical interventions, including induction of labour, episiotomies, and caesarean sections. These interventions can have both physical and emotional consequences for the mother and baby, such as increased risk of infection, longer recovery times, and lower breastfeeding rates. Not to mention the emotional knock on effect for the entire family after a traumatic birth.

In comparison, a natural birth attendant focuses on facilitating and supporting normal, physiological birth without unnecessary interventions.

This approach acknowledges the innate ability of women to birth their babies and provides them with the necessary support, information, and resources to do so. This approach can lead to better outcomes for both the mother and baby, including shorter labour times, fewer medical interventions, and higher rates of breastfeeding and better mental health. This will subsequently help the entire family with a ripple effect of love and feelings of safety and trust.

As maternity care is changing, more women are seeking autonomy over their bodies and a more woman-centred approach to care. This means that there is a growing demand for natural birth attendants who can provide women with the care and support they need to have a positive birth experience both inside and outside of the system. By taking a natural birth attendant course, practitioners can develop the skills and knowledge necessary to meet this demand and provide women with the care they need to have a safe and empowering birth experience.

Our birth attendant course stands out among other courses because we offer a comprehensive program that goes beyond just training you and leaving you to fend for yourself. We believe that birth work is a lifelong journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
One of the unique features of our course is that we offer a monthly zoom meet up that creates a strong sense of community among our graduates long after you complete the course. You get to join a wider network of birth workers, and this provides you with a supportive platform to share experiences and challenges. You will have 24/7 peer support through Whatsapp.

We also provide free directory listings at When Push Comes To Shove (the world renowned alternative maternity structure) which can help you acquire work and build your business. Unlike other courses, we cover a wide range of topics that are not typically included in birth attendant training, such as cranial osteopathy, FGM, closing the bones, and homeopathy and natural medicine. This extensive content is an exceptional value, as you get to learn various skills and techniques that can enhance your practice.

Another unique aspect of our course is that we arm you with practical tools to make a success of your self-employed career. We provide training in SEO, marketing, and how to run a business, which are essential skills for any self-employed birth worker.

Finally, our course is grounded in the key component of spiritual and self-development. We believe that you cannot support women at the most sacred time of their lives if you are not the best version of yourself. Practicing being in the present moment is crucial, and we offer tools and techniques to help you know yourself, know birth, grow, and blossom.

If you are offered clients directly through us, you will be asked to donate 10% of your fee to the When Push Comes To Shove Access Fund. This ensures we always have enough money to provide low income families with free care that they would otherwise not have access to. We will be able to pay your fee if you are chosen to support such families with these funds.
There really is no other course like this.

This is a movement, a community and revolution. Join us!

Irene Garzon

Midwife Trainer

I’m Irene, 45yo midwife, mother of 3 free-birthed daughters aged 12, 10 and 1. Since 2002 I’ve got a paper from a UK university that says I’m a midwife. However, I believe most true midwives are born with this gift.
A couple of years ago I changed the UK for the Caribbean, removed myself from any midwifery registry and started to fly solo.
I’ve met several shamans (the Mayan word for midwives) since I live in the American continent and I can humbly say I’ve never been in front of wiser people than them. Their knowledge is ancient. Transmitted generation to generation. I can proudly call them my friends.
My main role is to educate others to protect the future of human kind.
I’m learning about herbs, mushrooms, tinctures… I’m learning about ancient medicine.
When I get tangled with society’s noise I go back to the roots and ask myself: what would my Stone age ancestors do? And I try to follow that instinct.

Phil Escott

Health & Lifestyle Consultant

Health/lifestyle consultant, seven-year carnivore and drummer Phil Escott got chronically ill as a vegetarian, and his body revolted with psoriatic arthritis and other autoimmune conditions in 2010, leaving him unable to move without severe pain, let alone drum or exercise, and he had to throw out all his existing “expertise” and start from scratch. Phil’s eventual combination of a carnivore diet with EMF and artificial light avoidance, cold thermogenesis and a range of other health enhancing practices reversed the “incurable” diseases that he suffered from. His book “Arthritis, The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me” gained a foreword by Dr. Jack Kruse and has become an Amazon Kindle bestseller and is now available in print. Phil talks from personal experience about contemporary lifestyle and diet choices, disconnects from our ancestral heritage, emotional balancing and the simple but often misunderstood nature of spiritual awakening. He now consults with clients worldwide helping them to reverse their metabolic and autoimmune issues.

Lauren Walsh

Homeopathy Expert

Lauren is a mum of 5, soon to be 6, she has been practising homeopathy for over 3yrs. Lauren has used homeopathy during her pregnancies, birth and beyond, she also uses it frequently with her own family with great success.

Lauren decided to start looking more into the wonders of homeopathy after seeing the amazing results on her son. He was suffering with seizures which started for no apparent reason and the doctors wanted to prescribe him with drugs that would mildly sedate him. At 6yrs old, she did not want this for him, so she began looking into alternatives. From the very first day he was treated, he has never experienced a seizure again! He has now been seizure free for 7yrs!

With the guidance of a very experienced mentor, Lauren began treating others and confidently self prescribing for herself and her family.

Due to the difference it has made in her life, Lauren felt a calling to share her knowledge with others, helping them ignite the power within to heal themselves.

Martine Lloyd

Lead Midwife

Martine has been a practising midwife for 24 years. She was fortunate enough to train at a hospital where normality, physiological childbirth and women centred care were the priority. In 2003, Martine was part of the working group who initiated the All Wales Pathway for Normal Labour. She was appointed Lead Midwife for Home Births in 2013, and was successful in increasing the numbers of births within the home setting. In 2015 she was appointed Lead Midwife at a newly developed obstetric alongside Midwifery Led Unit. Martine is concerned that the increasing medicalisation of childbirth is causing women to feel disempowered, and therefore impinging on their right to choose the way in which they give birth. She is therefore keen to assist in the training of new Birth Attendants – a role that will prove invaluable in supporting women and families wishing to enjoy a positive and safe pregnancy and birth experience.

Nicky Adolphe Guest Speaker

Jeanette Faulkner

RGN, RM, BSc (Hons), PGCE, DipHyp

Jeanette became a Registered General Nurse in 1989 and then a Registered Midwife in 1992 – in those days this was the expected pathway to becoming a midwife. Between training experience was gained working in Neonatal Special Care and 0-2 years paediatric ward. As a midwife, Jeanette achieved Sister with responsibility for managing labour ward and spent many wonderful hours with a very strongly woman-centred community team resulting in a high home birth rate and low C-section outcome.

Health issues caused retirement from working shifts so after a stint as a school matron, she entered university to read BSc (Hons) Environmental Science followed by PGCE teacher training. She fell into project management and when the 2020 pandemic restrictions were put in place, felt a very strong calling to return to birth work – the best decision she feels she ever made. Jeanette’s practice is also enhanced with homeopathy, herbal treatments and hypnotherapy.

Her mantra? Knowledge is power – always be learning and bettering yourself, never stand still and always share knowledge.

Lucinda Ford

Guardian of Birth, Lactation Master & Maternal Spiritual Guide

“I am a Mother, my most sacred role. I use my intuition to connect with women, to give them the confidence to trust in their own inner knowing. I am a guardian of birth and a master of lactation. I have a deep passion for reigniting women with maternal traditions.

My module is about the role of herbs in supporting female health and vitality. From the moment of conception to seven years postpartum the land around us is calling out to all mothers. We are surrounded by Mother Nature’s gifts and we are beginning to reawaken to her ancient wisdom.”

Nicky Adolphe Guest Speaker

Linda Lilwall

Independent Midwife, TBR 3 step rewind practitioner, Hypnobirthing practitioner and Massage therapist.

“I worked in the NHS as a Midwife for a period spanning three decades and noticed a more technocratic & medicalised model of maternity care being introduced in an attempt to mitigate risk. This has now escalated with pregnancies becoming increasingly interrupted or labour interventions occurring with increasing frequency.

In 2018 I left the NHS because I noticed how the ‘one size fits all’ model is not serving women and is undermining their confidence and birth experience.  My huge focus is now around the induction epidemic and I want to shine a light on the impact that this has on birth experience and trauma. I have supported literally hundreds of clients through my private midwifery practise at frombumps2babies.co.uk and feel proud to have been their guardian and guide.”

Frequently asked questions

Artemis Birth Attendant Academy provides an extensive one year training programme to become a certified birth attendant. This is not a midwifery course, you will learn traditional birth keeping skills as a non clinical practitioner.

This course is certified by our own governing body and operates independently from mainstream regulating bodies and guidelines. Our approach is centered around women and informed by native & traditional practices.

We operate outside the mainstream maternity system so if you are looking for a course that is approved by governing bodies, this may not be for you. The validity of our certification process is based on the weight of our integrity, course content and outstanding statistics of birth outcomes from those we train who serve these families.

Although a basic understanding of biology and anatomy will be useful, we do not ask for any formal qualifications to apply nor do you need experience. Just having a passion to want to empower and support women in childbirth is all that’s required. We do not teach clinical care so a medical background is unnecessary. In fact, we ask those with a medical background to forget their medical approach to childbirth in order to get the most out of this course.

We want those who possess what it takes to join the childbirth revolution. Our mission is to provide women and families with the best support tailored to their needs. This is a transformational course, not transactional.

If you feel disillusioned and restricted by the care you are currently able to provide as a midwife working within the medicalised system, this course is the transition you have been waiting for. If you want to work ‘with woman’ rather than ‘with system’ and have always wanted to practice truly autonomous care, then this is for you!

The course officially launches in September 2023. It is a distance learning course so you can work at your own pace. Simply login and work through the modules.  There will be monthly live zoom webinars to give students the opportunity to ask questions and meet one another.

The course is a year long (52 modules) but all candidates will have upto two years to complete it. We understand everyone will have varying availability so please take your time to complete this course.

As well as the 52 modules you will be expected to take time for personal study and conduct your own research alongside the course content. We ask all of our candidates to keep themselves updated with maternity care research.

The total course fee is £4000

There are payment plans available to suit every budget.

As previously explained, there are 52 modules. When you have logged into the course area you may begin. You must complete each module in order to access the next one. This includes a quiz in order to graduate to the next. Once you have completed a module you will continue to have access to it so that you can come back to it whenever you need to. All modules will have access & guidance to additional learning. The course offers multiple pathways to optimise your learning interests.

Alongside the course modules you will have a work book. This can be used to reflect upon your knowledge and build a personal portfolio of your learning.

If you have participated in the course for under 30 days are still not happy, we will refund 100% of your money.
